[Infographic] How ICLEI’s five pathways contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals
The Sustainable Development Goals are 17 goals to transform our world. These goals are part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which countries adopted in 2015. They are a call to action by all countries to encourage economic prosperity while protecting the earth and its resources. The goals demonstrate that economic growth is interconnected with a range of social and environmental needs.
Each year, the High Level Political Forum – now underway until 19 July 2019 – serves as the main United Nations platform on sustainable development. The HLPF plays a central role in the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals at the global level.
In 2018, local and regional leaders rallied behind the ICLEI Montréal Commitment and Strategic Vision, which laid out five interconnected pathways to guide sustainable development in cities. Explore how the 189 activities that ICLEI has undertaken within the five pathways help to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in the infographic below.
In this urban era, cities are centers of opportunity and prosperity. They are where innovation sparks and takes root. We need to harness this energy to reorient and rebalance the patterns of daily life, the built environment and the natural systems in and around cities across the world. This is how we will shift the trajectory of global development and tackle global challenges. ICLEI is already moving at a rapid pace, and at a global scale. ICLEI’s Montréal Commitment and Strategic Vision captures our vision for sustainable urban development.
