Call for Social Reporters: ICLEI World Congress 2015

Are you interested in the environment, sustainability, local governments, climate change, and the future of cities? Would you like to spend one week reporting on a major international congress and working with the communications team of the world’s leading local government network?

Then we want to hear from you! We are looking for volunteer social reporters for the ICLEI World Congress 2015.

What is the ICLEI World Congress 2015?

We’ll let Gino Van Begin, our Secretary General, tell you all about it in the video below:

Social reporting

We will be reporting on the World Congress through all of our social media channels. But we would like as many different voices as possible! We therefore invite students or anyone with a particular interest in the topics of our World Congress to become a social reporter. This means either attending the Congress in Seoul or watching webcasts of sessions at the Congress, and contributing your thoughts.

How exactly does it work?

If you are selected, you will be assigned a specific period or session of the Congress to cover. If you are using Twitter, you will tweet during and/or after the session. If you are contributing a blog post, you will submit your post as soon as possible after the session. Our communications team will then either retweet and endorse your tweets, or will publish your blog post on our blog and publicize the post across our social media platforms. We also welcome other contributions, including photos, videos, and Vines. Our communications team will provide further information and instructions to all selected reporters.

Why become a social reporter for ICLEI?

Social reporting gives you a chance to work with a major international organization and to develop your communication skills. It gives you valuable experience of covering and producing content from a conference of global significance. And it allows you to benefit from the insights of global leaders on sustainable urban development.

How to apply

Drop us an email at media@iclei.org. Please tell us which social media channels you use and include up to two samples of your work. Don’t worry if you haven’t done a great deal of work on social media before – we will help you!

We look forward to hearing from you and to working with you for our landmark World Congress in Seoul!

Please note that this is a volunteering opportunity and is not remunerated.
